Veld Raw began when veterinarian Dr. Pieter Joubert noticed a pattern: dogs fed commercial kibble kept returning with skin issues, digestive problems, and low energy. Dogs fed raw? Thriving. After 15 years treating pets in the Karoo, Pieter understood that dogs evolved eating whole prey—muscle, organ, and bone—not processed grain-based pellets. He partnered with ethical game farms across the Eastern Cape and Free State to source what commercial pet food can't offer: springbok, kudu, ostrich, and other free-range game that roamed the African veld eating wild grasses, never seeing a feedlot or antibiotic. Our recipes follow the ancestral 80-10-10 ratio (80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organ) that mirrors natural prey. Every batch is flash-frozen at our Port Elizabeth facility to lock in nutrition and eliminate pathogens. We're not just making dog food—we're returning dogs to the diet their bodies were designed for. The difference shows in bright eyes, healthy coats, and boundless energy.
